hi i'm paul

Welcome to Handley Bespoke. I’m Paul Handley. I live on a house boat with my fiancee & interior designer Leisha and our son Otto and I have been working with wood professionally as a carpenter and joiner for 15 years. My regular focus and passion is bespoke handmade household furniture; kitchen cabinetry, wardrobes, storage solutions etc. But my repertoire for projects is varied and I’m adept in any job you require wood related, so for any bespoke project, please get in touch!

I love creating bespoke builds

Creating an item that is beyond my clients’ expectations and seeing their reaction when they unveil the final product is my favourite part of working in joinery. I will handcraft your piece to the highest of specs and quality, without the exorbitant price tag!

Bespoke furniture is all about you, your style, personality and lifestyle, and whatever I make, my passion and love for the craft of joinery will show, so you can enjoy a beautiful piece of furniture that's made for you.

Furniture & Interior Design

If you have an idea for a piece of furniture that you’d like made specially for you, whether you’ve seen similar online or in a magazine, or you’ve an image in your mind but you can’t find anything close enough, I can bring your vision to life.

Equally, if you’re unsure what it is you’re looking for and need some design help, or you have an awkward space that needs a bespoke solution, my partner Leisha Norman is an interior designer and can work with you to create a design, which I will then build and bring to life. To view Leisha's interior design work, you can visit her website here

It's all about wood

I can work with any type of wood, but there are certain woods suited to jobs more than others. For example, painted shaker style doors and frames tend to be made in beech because it’s a hardwood, and when painted the grain isn’t visible so you’ll get a smooth matte finish. For more modern styles, where consistency and a smooth finish are key, I tend to use a material called medite, which is similar to mdf in its composition but it’s a much more premium quality in comparison.

If you have a preference for a particular wood, I can build in any type you choose, but I will of course happily offer my suggestions and talk you through the options and their finishes so that you can pick the best style for you.

I also like to use metal where possible to create a contrast for the wood, such as dining table legs, room dividers and lighting cages. I’ll always be able to give you lots of choice when it comes to picking shades and tones as I use raw steel and then powder coat in any colour.

Service Areas

I am a joiner/carpenter/bespoke furniture crafter based in Southampton, in the UK. I create kitchens and one-of-a-kind pieces for homeowners and businesses in Southampton and Winchester, and all over Hampshire and Dorset.

Whilst these areas are my usual place of work, if you're further afield but interested in using my services, please still get in touch... I've just completed a chalet renovation in France, so I'm happy to travel for the right jobs!
